If you have ever opened a jar of commercial chicken meat baby food, you likely had the same reaction as many parents – ICK! Making your own homemade chicken baby food (puree or not) is as simple as baking some chicken, cooling it off and then whizzing it up! 1 baked chicken thigh and 1 [...]

My crockpot cracked a few months ago and I have not replaced it yet. Knowing that the power would be going out and that we have limited use of appliances with the generator, I decided to try some rice cooker oatmeal. This is just like making overnight crockpot oatmeal but without the overnight. Oatmeal is [...]

It’s been quite some time since I have added new posts here on the Wholesome Baby Food blog. Over the summer, Wholesome Baby Food joined the fabulous Momtastic.com family – so exciting – and many new posts have been posted over there. In the future, all new postings will be made here, on the Wholesome [...]

The maple trees are flowing with sap and the best maple syrup around is boiled down just 20 minutes from my house! As winter gives way to Spring, we always look forward to the sugar season and while it is almost wrapped up we are happily awaiting the promise of the warmth of Summer. Today [...]

As often happens, the best recipes seem to be created when we look into our fridges or cupboards and something either falls out on us or we realize that we need to use up a particular ingredient. Behold the papaya-pine-a-cado! Pineapple, Papaya and Avocado These tasty fruits were just begging for mercy before they had to [...]

This post is a do-over but this time, with pictures. We had oatmeal encrusted cod last night. Debbi on the Wholesome Baby Food FB Fan page had asked about using panko for her little babies so I thought I would take pictures of our Oatmeal Cod for her, and for all of you Oatmeal [...]

I’m getting ahead of myself here because the pumpkins are not yet ready for the real harvest. Fall is one of my favorite seasons and I was so happy my little ones were 9 months old as the Fall season hit full on. Here was one of their favorites. As it was the season, I [...]

I was so excited to see the lovely color of purple on this plum that I had to grab a shot and post a post. Now THIS is how a fresh plum should look. And the sweet smell, oh my goodness my twins were even oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over the plums. As you may know, [...]

When my kiddos were able to handle lots of texture (about 9 months), I began making them quick & easy cheesy quesadillas. These quesadillas were great for them to gnaw and suck on. It was rare that they “bit off more than they could chew” due to the overall size and texture of the quesadilla. [...]

Beets, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. We have a love/hate relationship with them and poor beets, we really are fair weathered friends! Today the grocer had beautifully large and sooo purple beats with gorgeous stems and leaves. Yes, I was totally infatuated. Roasted Beet Shapes have been on the Beets for Baby page [...]

This delicious and seasonal recipe is perfect for a myriad of uses! For babies, this would be great for those 10 months+ considering the addition of strawberries. As conservative caution is the motto, please use your own judgement about serving this to babies under 10 months; your baby may already be enjoying strawberries and may [...]

It’s been a wet and icky weekend here in New England, a bit reminiscent of Fall. This morning was a perfect time to make some pumpkin pancakes. I used frozen pumpkin puree. I cooked and pureed the pumpkin then froze it in 1 cup measurements. Caveat, upon thawing, push out any extra liquid by dumping the pumpkin into [...]
