When I was growing up, Shepard’s Pie was a staple in our family. We had it for dinner at least twice a month. Mom used to vary it though, to keep our tastebuds surprised instead of bored with the same ‘ole pie. After baking 5 sweet potatoes last night and not having anything in particular [...]
Thanks to Josie in CA who let us know about the latest marketing ploy at Gerber. Not only do the commercial baby food companies try to deceive parents into thinking that they are better at feeding babies than the parents are, they are now making foods labeled as Fruit Juice Snacks – these contain corn [...]

Amanda wrote us awhile ago asking about the large amounts of solid food needed for her daughter to meet iron requirements. Amanda was not supplementing nor was she using fortified cereal. I thought i’d post about being prepared in emergencies – this post comes from an old page that I have yet to update. At the time, we had just gone through serious flooding and rain. Wow-Weeeee! We were without power for 10 days! Yep, 10 days. From 11 December to 21 December at 10:00pm we were in the dark, without modern heat, hot water or refrigeration. Here in NH we are part of one of the worst ice storms in NH history! It’s day 7 of no power. We’re lucky to have a big wood stove for cooking and heat. Wow is it humbling to think of those who never had the comfort of electricity and still carry on with their days tasks! We’re doing well and managed to salvage food. If you have time please check out our article about food in a power outage. Search for it using our search bar. We’typing this from an iPhone so it’s difficult to get the link for you now!
We hope to get a generator today for hot showers and the freezer. We won’t be able to do site work for awhile. We apologize to all of you who have shared your precious little ones via our gallery. We miss being able to read all about them and add them to our gallery! Unfortunately we are all without power and prefer to not outsource our updates to others!
Happy holidays. We hope your little ones enjoy the magic and warmth of the season. Especially all the gummy foods!
With luck, we will have power for Christmas day.
