U.K. SMA Gold liquid infant milk recalled

[ 2 ] June 14, 2008 |

June 13, 2008 — SMA Nutrition has pulled 40,530 cartons of its market leading SMA Gold liquid infant milk off shop shelves in the UK, following 11 complaints.

The ready-to-use 1 litre packs have a best before date of 12 March 2009 and have the batch number 06033G printed on top of the carton.
A spokesman for SMA Nutrition said customers complained of opening the packs to find the milk had separated and curdled.

The spokesman said: “We have taken medical opinion and understand that any upset caused by drinking affected milk would be temporary.”

He added: “As a precautionary measure we are recalling the batch from retailers and advising customers not to use product from this batch.

“No other SMA products or batches, either liquid or powder formulations, are affected by this recall. Parents can continue to use other SMA liquid and powder infant milk products with confidence.

“SMA Nutrition regrets any inconvenience or concern this recall may cause our customers and would like to reassure them of our commitment to provide babies and young children with the highest quality nutrition products.”

Concerned customers can visit the SMA Nutrition Website or call the SMA Careline on 0800 0890075 for more information and to receive a replacement carton.

  2. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question :-( I was able to find the following however. I hope it is helpful:

Nation Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has allayed fears concerning the milk which killed some children in China, and said no infant formula from that country is registered in Nigeria.

NAFDAC Head of Public Relations, Alhaji Abubakar Jimoh, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the organisation had not registered any infant formula or baby food from China. “The possibility of the milk coming here is not likely, as we have not registered any baby food or infant formula from China,” he said.

Jimoh said the Agency had already alerted its field officers to look out for any such products. “Due to the porous nature of our borders, all NAFDAC out-stations have being alerted on the possibility of the milk finding its way here,” he said.

“The world is a global village and we cannot say that because China is far away from Nigeria, the milk cannot get here,” he said, adding that there was no cause for alarm and urged Nigerians to be on the watch out and notify the Agency if they discover any Chinese milk anywhere in the country.”
